Spon Diogo A/W 11
Spon Diogo A/W 11 Spon Diogo is a Copenhagen based label comprising Mia Lisa Spon and Rui Andersen Rodrigues Diogo. Launching their label in August 2008, this collection marks the sixth the design house has made, and their fourth catwalk show.

Prior to embarking on their label Mia Lisa Spon is trained as a tailor, working with Danish and Swedish clothing companies whilst Rui Andersen Rodrigues Diogo has a background rooted in design. Self taught, Rui first ran a successful art gallery and boutique in Reykjavik before working as an arts editor at Danish fashion magazine III.
Spon Diogo’s approach to fashion is one of minimalism and construction. Focusing upon strong and structured tailoring and utilizing luxury materials they create pieces of modern armor for women. Spon Diogo also reflect their social and cultural outlooks in their designs, amalgamating socio political influences to create empowering clothes constructed with the urban climate in mind.

Their most recent collection for A/W 11 debuted at Copenhagen Fashion Week last week and drew it’s inspiration from ‘the season itself- also it hints at a portrait of a certain woman.’ An interpretation of an exclusively black wardrobe, the focus was upon geometric tailoring with hints of subversive sexuality. Luxurious materials such as black leather, Saga fur and lace added depth whilst emerald silk and grey tweed uplifted the colour palette, producing a strong, rich femme fatale inspired collection.
Spon Diogo focused on the strength of feminity through highlighting the waist. Corsets and waist-nippers underneath cropped cut away jackets accentuated hourglass figures, a cocoon cowl neck coat was cinched in with a wide leather belt, whilst ultra tight mini skirts were given floor sweeping trails, oozing sophistication. Layering contrasting textures created depth throughout the collection, proving a limited colour palette shifted focus upon the precise tailoring of the duo. Asymmetric cuts complemented the figure beautifully, waterfall jackets, slashed necklines and capped sleeved gilets subtly reveled the female form, whilst ultra slim cigarette pants elongated the legs, proving sophisticated yet alluring. Spon Diogo also showed us a softer side. See through lace bodices were ultra feminine, toughened up by high waisted wide leg leather trousers they demonstrated a modern take on classic glamour. Fox fur jackets oozed luxury whilst a sleeveless green leather jacket brought an edge to a silk evening dress.

This collection cleverly contrasted the minimal and utilitarian with powerful dominant sexuality, concentrating upon quality materials and expert tailoring Spon Diogo have produced an outstanding A/W collection for the modern woman which is both wearable and covetable.
