The Los Angeles Fashion Council Spring 2013 Collections exclusively featured Los Angeles based apparel and accessory designers to a select audience of press, buyers, bloggers, stylists and photographers at the stunning Carondelet House over a two day period last week. With over 300 Instagrams and 500 tweets, reaching 150,000 fashion lovers the Los Angeles Fashion Council “on home turf” shows have come to a close. Here is the recap.
Day one saw salon style presentations from ISM Mode by designer Inka Sherman, a sustainable and stylized line followed by the boho-luxe styling of designer, Stephanie Lampkin and Odylyne. Later that day Jen Awad sent sartorial candy down the runway in her Spring 2013 Collection “Down the Rabbit Hole” – followed by some delayed gratification in Victor Wilde’s Bohemian Society, providing the audience with chaos, both literally and figuratively.
Day Two kicked off with a lunch and lesson in Macro Trends from the West Coast’s very own Sally Lohan of WGSN and was swiftly followed by the debut of Argentinian turned Angeleno designer Luciana Salamone’s Spring 2013 collection – echoing both Victorian and the thirties. With the Rodarte feel Luciana Salamone’s collection is my favorite new LA gem- handcrafted, romantic and unique.
A dramatic and artistic film installation and performance, including sensational ballet performance, from Kittinhawk, by designer Allysun Dutra, mesmerized the audience and offered a insight in to the artistic background of this designer. Dark and wicked visual were accompanied by The Toccata and Fugue in D minor, Johann Sebastian Bach.
The final two shows closing out the day were AGAIN, from designer Amber Kekich, with her ready to wear collection of dresses and separates complete with amazing prints and neon detailing. The show was followed up with the debut apparel collection from Luxury Jones, by designer Niki Dimitras, best known for her footwear, her debut apparel collection will be sold in Urban Outfitters from December.
In addition to the shows themselves Carondelet House also played host to an onsite showroom for both the featured apparel designers as well as accessory collections. Accessory designers included, Pop Molly, featuring their neon hued belts and purses, Gilda Grey and their eclectic mixed media jewelry collection, Bijou Van Ness, with her vintage inspired hats and fascinators and Shallow Fashion with designer Courtney Cady’s jewelry collection featuring raw metal work and precious stones. Keeping the guests refreshed throughout both days were the team at Chambord Vodka, with their signature cocktails, created exclusively for the event.
The festivities concluded at W Los Angeles where the two day run was celebrated with the launch of Los Angeles Fashion Council’s ongoing Pop Up Shop collaboration with W Hotels. The store was curated by three top, local bloggers, Chanelle Laurence of The Penelope Times, Natalie Alcala of Natalies Menagerie and Stephanie Liu of Honey & Silk. Each selected looks from Los Angeles Fashion Council designers including, Rachel Pally, Jen Awad, Mila Hermanovski, Kittinhawk, Gypsy Junkies, AGAIN, Shallow Fashion and Popomomo. It is not without the help of their partners and sponsors Merchant Factors, WGSN, W Hotels, Westfield Australia, Cinema Make Up School, Carondelet House, Two Point Oh! LA, Melissa Diner, Chambord Vodka and photographers Jake Edmondson and Marla Verdugo Los Angeles Fashion Council’s season was so successful.
