A cultural wanderer, jack of many trades, and all-around mover ‘n shaker, Marcelo Burlon’s oeuvre, from styling photography to filmmaking, from clubbing to directing, is an endlessly morphing monument to the power of contamination. It comes as no surprise for this wunderkind who arrived in Italy from Patagonia and took over Milan en route to conquering the world.

A line of tees is Marcelo’s latest venture. Following his dream, Marcelo has left Milano and travelled as far as Barneys in New York. The moment when most brands have pretty much made it, not only on a mass scale but also with a cult following.

The t-shirt is a clothing at its most basic and effective. It’s a canvas in search of a creative mind to come along and create a playground, a declaration of intents or a political manifesto. The thing that makes you run out of an art gallery and stop someone on the street, when you see him or her wear it, only to be told it’s all sold out. Nuff said.

Tell us about the idea of Suspense?

The idea was about freedom it’s about doing the impossible.

How did you come up with that?

Sometimes I will look at a building and think I could make it from that building to the other- you have these fantasies and I was excited to make them real. I just wanted to create a whole series that I could look back on and say that nearly killed me but it was so worth it.

Suspense carries a lot of technicalities. How did you accomplish all the physical manoeuvring within the framework of safety? Did you use trampolines to cushion the blow? If so, do you realize how this conceptualizes on taking hard falls in real with no safety? How can we relate this to today’s world?

Every single shot was done in a different way safety was a concern some of the time, most of the other time we just didn’t talk about what would happen if things went wrong. It was interesting though to see peoples strong suits in this series who knew Emma Roberts could fly none of us until it happened but then it was just all the sudden this magical thing there you see your good friend flying through the air like peter pan only there no wires it’s just happening.

Your aesthetics are usually tuned into sensuality channelling classic beauty and sex appeal. Your latest works Suspense and Chromatic step away from that. Was this a conscious direction you took influencing your other current projects?

It has been interesting I have always been doing work like this. The sexy work is just what became known but this was my first style. Then I went away from it, for a while, but I have always wanted to do this type of work. More and more people started collecting my work and it became more fun to do series, but again I have to give credit to Emma for pushing me on Suspense. She was the one who kept telling me I was truly on to something and having a great friend support you in your work is a blessing.

Which other projects are involved in?

My first film, Final girl, which stars Abigail Breslin and Wes Bentley; which is going to be very fun movie to watch!

Tell us about the book The Dirty Side of Glamour and the concept behind it.

I started DSOG 5 years ago I suppose it has a mix of everything a lot of stuff people have never seen mixed with a few classics from the years having a photo book these days is a very tough sell but it has been building for so long and I am very proud of the time in my life it represents and the images that are in it.

How does editing your new movie Final Girl differ from shooting photographs? Do the fundamentals remains, draw away or towards the same techniques and approach as with photography?

It’s funny I always approached photography as a movie so the movie was very easy I was very comfortable with it. Making movies is what I was born to do. I am so at home on set and working long hours.

What’s so special about Delirium? Did you write the script? Produce? Cast it? What’s the deal?

Delirium is different for me because I am just acting in it. It’s an intense action movie but my job on it is strictly acting which was fun and odd I didn’t have a million jobs. I didn’t know why to do with so little to do.

Are you living the dream of loving what you do?

Life is a complete dream! I check myself everyday to take a moment and understand that this house I live in, all my friends who work with me, everything I have done and I have is because of my mind and because I never took no for an answer. I am very thankful. It’s truly incredible!

Meeting Chrysta Bell was like a dream come true. We were given 20 minutes for the interview, which stretched into 1 hour; eventually I had to let her go for a sound check. I’ve seen many a beautiful women before; but she is beyond compare, striking and unique. It’s the shape of her brown eyes; like almonds exuberating kindness. Her well-structured face with cheekbones to cut ice on, and her aristocratic profile adorned with a perfectly shaped nose. Her beauty is not complete without long, flowing red hair arranged in waves. Then there is of course the body of a goddess, which left me wondering how close to perfection one can get in our youth.

Her beauty shines through her personality. While sitting and talking in her dressing room at Manchester’s Ruby Lounge, I became transfixed by her personality and her energetic field. I was absorbed by her artistic ability to express herself much like I was later consumed by her performance later that evening. An hour flew by while we had the deepest conversation woman to woman.. We talked about lovers, family, the arts and the challenges that a beautiful woman can face; the notions of the industry, and her 10 year collaboration with David Lynch.

The story goes that they met at the beginning of her career, almost a decade ago, but being signed to another record label and being in a band, she was legally bound and unable to make an album with him. Then a few years later, they got together and made a song. The song was a pivotal point for both, much like Almodovar and Cruz, Gala and Dali which created not just art, but a partnership. The melodies are very Lynch, but don’t lose the soul of Chrysta Bell. Describing their sessions, Chrysta says, “I’m feeling this track, and I’m feeling in the moment and singing, and David’s going, ‘Yes, yes.’ . . . There’s this dance that happens. I let the music speak to me because it always does. That’s ingrained. I feel it.” Chrysta Bell says David Lynch‘s influence on her actually began while she was a child, seeing Twin Peaks on TV. “It was the theme song from Twin Peaks that literally opened me up to a new realm of what music was in my life,” she says, ‘’It feels absolutely right.’’ When talking about their collaborations and understanding through art and each other, you can’t help but feel a tweak of jealousy rush over, because that is so rare and as Chrysta describes ‘’It’s like finding your soul mate…You feel like you hit the jackpot’’ which David replicates by saying ‘’Sometimes you hit gold.”

Standing in all her goddess like glory, with perfectly sculptured and shapely limbs, in a semi-transparent dress, that transcends elegance and simplicity of form; Chrysta fixates all of the room on her. What follows are songs filled with a dreamy, outta space, smoky and wounded sound drawn from her solo debut album, This Train, which she co-produced with Lynch. She continues her hour long set with ‘’Real Love’’, the melodic and lyrical “This Train’’- my personal favourite, as it evokes a degree of personal sentiment, before ‘’Friday Night Fly’’ by which point you are drawn into the magic of the moment by her soft singing voice, which soars and appears to be wounded in time with, lyrics and the crescendo of life.

What’s DLM?

DLM is the agency that represents me and stands for Dolores Lavin management. She’s the founder of the agency and the big gun. She poached me a few years back.

How did you start your career?

I studied Fine Arts where I majored in silkscreen painting. I used to exhibit my work around town; I was lucky enough to have my art shown at the Sydney Opera House Gallery and the Museum of Sydney amongst touring exhibitions that showed at all the major states of Oz. I merged into photography during that time, it was another medium I was experimenting with; I used to love taking photos of friends and street cast strangers. It was very hands on, I would do it all…hair, make up, styling and set design. That was back in 06- 07. You can see some of that work here.

So I guess that’s how it started.

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by a lot of things, mainly people and cinema. I like to think in characters and genres. A big chunk of my bookshelf is devoted to erotica of the 20’s through to the early 90’s. I’m also really inspired by men, I always have been; they fascinate me. Right now my biggest obsession is my hubby Fadi, who I used for one of my films -you can see it here. I always have my camera handy to snap him and he’s not camera shy, he grew a beard and Looked like Jesus, then he cut his beard into a moustache and now he looks like Freddy Mercury, other days like an 80’s porn star or university coach(all of my favorite looks).

Just the other day I was telling him about how I wanted to exhibit the prints and hold an exhibition around it called F is for Fadi. Ha.

Anything eventful happened because of what you do or whom you’ve met?

I started a website called CRUNK SOCIETY www.crunksociety.com with a focus on men and urban subculture. It’s kind of like my archive of bad boy types that I scouted and shot for my own personal photo documentation. The guys I shoot for that site are pretty interesting and come from all walks of life; most of them are misunderstood but very strong people in presence. I met this one guy who called himself Tupac, who believed that the rapper Tupac’s soul had left his body and entered his. It wasn’t until he was in some real trouble and found himself homeless that his real name Jamie surfaced in the paper work. Anyway I won’t go into it but I took on the role of his caregiver and got a real inside view of what it is like to be unemployed and homeless looking for permanent shelter in Sydney. He was only 19. Heavy.

When was your ”break” so to speak?

I was strapped for cash, when a job position for street style photographer opened up for a magazine here In Sydney called GRAZIA. I hadn’t shot street style before, but I had some event photography to show them in the meeting. The art director loved the way I shot parties and got me to replicate it on location at a club with a model in relevant fashion. The shoot was a success and he got me into the studio to shoot another. Soon after I saw myself shooting two other stories in Brazil in the lap of luxury from the Copacabana Palace hotel. It was an amazing experience and a total thrill to be thrown in the deep end like that. You should have seen me rock up to the revolving doors of the ritzy hotel, I felt like Julia Roberts from Pretty Woman.

Who is out there whose work you admire?

Hmmmm it’s an interesting question. Like I said, I’m really inspired by people and culture, it’s hard for me to say. I have loads of books and old magazines that I reference from time to time, but no particular creative.

What do you think about Tyler Shields work? Terry O’Neill? Man Ray? Hit me up.

Tyler Shields feels very now, like you can tell it’s digital photography shot with a wide-angle lens. I’m interested to see how it’ll stand the test of time, when people look back at it 30 or 40 years from now and feel moved by it. But don’t get me wrong I think it’s good; some of it’s great work.

Terry O’Neill is brilliant! There are a few masters in the field of photography these days that can capture such candid moments that allure. I really like his work.

LOVE Man Rays’ work. I feel like it captures the time perfectly, there’s always a sense of melancholy that draws you in; I feel that it’s good photography and great art.

Actress Lucy Liu has unveiled an exhibition of her artwork at a new gallery in Manchester. The Charlie’s Angels star created a series of works entitled Totem which are on display at The Popular Institute on Thomas Street.

The 44-year-old made the pieces in the collection by sewing hand-dyed leather onto canvas and linen to explore “the fragility of the human form”. Also, butterfly wings, confessions written on notes and little wood shelf’s to convey ”emotions” attached to the piece. The gallery opened its doors with Liu’s inaugural exhibition on 17 May. The guests enjoyed champagne and mingling with Lucy Liu and the gallery manager Christine Barnett. Both of course encouraging dialogue and response to the art pieces on display.

“We’re really excited about the collaboration,” a Popular Institute spokesperson said. “Her exhibition, and the new gallery, really adds to the Manchester art scene.”

“Ms Liu’s art symbolizes human experiences such as trauma, healing, death and birth.” Lucy has said that she was in ”an immature relationship” and that has contributed to her creating a collection of art pieces around the vertebra because human spine is connected to many nerve endings and if broken can paralyze. Lucy has also explained that she was one person in one of her relationships and one of her pieces creates a sense of being ”one” as opposed to two individuals in a relationship. All pieces feature skeletons against a grey backdrop and tiny threads of colors in-between to communicate with each other.

Sarah Sandin: “Art has always been a part of me. I grew up in small towns with a gypsy family and being exposed to an unconventional lifestyle at an early age lead to an unconventional and eccentric way of thinking. I have no education, I came from poverty and my art is just imagined dreams I make real. The kind of art I paint is hard to describe. Abstract. I use different mediums, mixing my photos with my paint sometimes.

I started playing music and singing with my father when I was 8 or 9. I moved around a lot when I was young and was always around hippies, free thinkers, artists and outcasts. When I went to high school I stuck out because I was poor, I didn’t have new clothes or nice things. I had to be resourceful so I started dressing myself in thrift store clothes or donated clothes we would steal from the back of Saint Vincent De Pauls. I would make clothes, deconstruct clothes and try to come up with my own style because I couldn’t keep up with the trends that were actually in style. I invented my own way of doing things at a very young age. I started painting, drawing, playing guitar and singing all before puberty. The message I would like put out is simple. Live art if that’s what is in you. I don’t think art stops at the paper or canvas. I believe it is a spirit that lives inside you.

I was inspired by magazines and glamour because they represented something I didn’t have. I guess I felt I could make it myself if I could imagine it, it could be done. When I was 19 I moved to LA and started modelling and dancing. Having come from nothing and a very small town I quickly used the way of thinking I’ve always had and that was if I could imagine it, I could do it. A born dreamer, I am inspired by artists that live art; not just make it. If art is your intention then it is art no matter what you are doing. My forms of art are vast and diverse. I paint using multimedia, I’m a photographer, I make videos, I’m a performance artist, a dancer, I sing, I play guitar, mandolin, ukulele, I write and I model. I make art every single day whether it be a image or a sculpture or a song. I’ve performed with so many different artists and performers and I’ve had the chance to shoot with some of the top photographers in the industry. I consider myself very lucky. I learned photography being on set, I think I look at light like paint. I can see light and how its effects the skin, the hair, the shape of things. I just naturally picked up a camera and started shooting. I shoot a lot of self portraits which sounds really self absorbed but I love Cindy Sherman and I love that I can use the camera to capture myself however I want and feel. I create because that’s the only thing I’m good at.”

Ahhh, Versailles. There’s nothing like fresh avocado and white onion against some pollo asado but wait, that’s not the only treat from Versailles to be slept on rocking out on Venice blvd (for those squares who don’t know, the other Versailles is a cozy Cuban chicken chain).

KROQ and Redbull brought Verailles to Culver City and hosted an intimate Q&A and live band serenade by Phoenix.

Phoenix stopped by to highlight their new album, Bankrupt!, and rocked KROQ’s Redbull Sounds Stage and the small crowd with a taste of some sweet sounds, a touch of their new album, and what some people missed at Coachella and Lallapalooza and what’s to come for weekend two as they headline. Before jamming out to classics and then a new track, Nicole Alvarez interviewed the punk rockers with some pressing questions. Frontman Thomas Mars amiably answered and explained everything from their intimate connection with Daft Punk to the infamous R. Kelley all the way to how they positioned their latest rhythmic release to sound. The new album is highly anticipated and boasts an evolved hybrid of dance and rock as it’s the follow up to their last album, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart which was packed with smashes.

The four Frenchman blessed our ears with Liztomania, Entertainment, and Trying to be Cool, and of course, 1901. Light pop, hard baselines, and super synth chords wrapped around some punkie guitar riffs that reverberated throughout the Sound Space and no one sat still. These guys have a persona that match their sophisticatedly syncopated sound and deep felt lyrics.

It looks as though the new album isn’t a sequel but a revelation of party and precision.

What a brilliant afternoon and what an amazing experience for some lucky locals. See you at Coachella Phoenix and hopefully at Versailles, either will do!

Tyler Shields is one unstoppable force; he’s photographed a blood soaked Lindsay Lohan, a beaten Heather Morris and the coveted crocodile ” Hermes Birkin Bag” being lit up in flames by girlfriend and actress Francesca Eastwood. Some might say controversy is Shields’ middle name. His newest collection, appropriately titled SUSPENSE, the name portraying both an aspect of Tyler’s personality and work, is a collection that stimulates the mind and body as you envision yourself falling and perhaps waking up right before you actually hit the ground. A project that is sure to make the observer think deep mysterious thoughts. Debuting this Saturday at the Guy Hepner Gallery in West Hollywood, SUSPENSE will feature photographs labeled Wall Ride, Lydia Falling and Francesca Floating. Shields recently added director to his resume; finishing a feature film “Final Girl” starring Oscar nominated Abigail Breslin and Hunger Games’ Wes Bentley. His book, Dirty Side of Glamour will come out this fall and the first book of his series ”Smartest Man” was published this year. Tyler’s work tends to bring out your inner bad ass, but who says you can’t have a little fun once and a while!

During APRIL 21, 2013 – AUGUST 19, 2013 The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA) will present the first comprehensive museum retrospective of works by the internationally acclaimed Swiss-born artist Urs Fischer. One of today’s most important contemporary artists, Fischer is known for using a range of media to express the transience of art and, concomitantly, the human condition. Jessica Morgan, Curator, International Art, at Tate Modern in London, is curating the exhibition, which will occupy a total of 65,000 square feet at both MOCA Grand Avenue and The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, from April 21, 2013, to August 19, 2013. Presenting his work of the last decade, the show will bring together for the first time Fischer’s many iconic works from leading international collections as well as recent production. Using the two spaces of MOCA, the exhibition will showcase Fischer’s propensity to bridge the banal and the fantastical. Each location will have a distinct character and approach responding and adapting to the unique spaces of the museum. At MOCA, Fischer will weave together the storyline of his work: skeletons will meet movie stars, toys will greet grave-like holes, and our accustomed sense of disinterested distance will be simultaneously embraced and destroyed.

Held at the Australian Technology Park, Sydney, on Thursday 7^th March, 600+ industry guests, fashion identities and consumers were seated by the runway as 16 designers showcased what is coming up for Australian fashion. Guests such as Josh Flinn, Jules Sebastian, artist Brittany Cairns, Deni Hines, Elen Levon and model Kelsey Martinovich as well as a number of contestants from Project Runway were front row with the designers including Nicola Finetti, Akira and Bettina Liano, watching with a keen eye as the designs were revealed. The looks were sophisticated, sharp and suave, contrasted with flirty, fun, bold prints and geometric designs. Leona Edmiston opened with her highly anticipated SS13/14 collection featuring a mix of soft pastels, bright colours and feminine prints. Nicola Finetti led the way with their chic tailored pieces. Think short suits, pant suits, sharp blouses and symmetrical mini dresses next season. Twofolded demonstrated why they were a label to watch with classic structured designs that many remarked on after the show and Bettina Liano showcased refreshingly lighter pieces for summer paired with splashes of edgy leather. Saucy Rose and Wild Pony presented their fun, bold and bright swimwear; a sure hit when the warmer weather of next summer kicks in. Our ‘Next Generation’ of talented designers did not fail to impress. Couture designers Niki Teljega and Galanni showcased their collection of embellished sultry evening wear which has fast become a celebrity hit, whilst Chiquita Searle, Sharnee, and Mossée smart, fun and ultra feminine ready to wear that left the industry in a buzz. Mackenzie Mode and Gemeli Power showcased the bold print colours for the biggest trend next spring summer season whilst Zofara added the ‘wow’ factor with their exotic prints in designs of mini dresses, gowns and skirt/top combinations. The creation is very much oriented around a spiritual or emotional dynamism, each piece created to impart abstract ideas and somewhat invisible forces. The work and mind of Victorine Muller - performance, sculpture, painting and sound artist illuminates this collection that emits a tangible aura. Clothes have the ability to create “moments of sensitivity, transport people into a different state, so that things hidden may become visible and something that is not said and cannot be said, is”. A below-the-knee skirt with an easy drape in the front, more structured in back and a mini version of it, draping sporty tops and large folds are placed in the necklines. Terry O’Neill, needs no introduction and has gained notoriety documenting the fashions, styles, and celebrities during the 1960s. O’Neill’s photographs display his knack for capturing his subjects candidly or in unconventional settings. His work has also been featured in numerous exhibitions.

As you view some of the most inspiring and iconic images of musicians, actors and legends photographed over the last fifty-plus years, you have to think about those who existed on both sides of the lens. At the time of making history photographers rarely think about how iconic the imagery will become. And, in the end, it is one click of the shutter which makes a timeless moment in our lives.

The featured works of David Bowie by Terry O’Neil, at the current Victoria and Albert exhibition were taken between 1973-74 and are able to capture the singer in his most influential periods as the glam icon Ziggy Stardust and during the Diamond Dogs era.

Terry O’Neill’s presence will be felt at Alon Zakaim Fine Art, 5-7 Dover St, London W1S 4LD from 12 March-18 April 2013. Gallery opening hours are 9am-6pm, Monday-Friday. Weekends by appointment only.

The V&A has been given unprecedented access to the David Bowie Archive to curate the first international retrospective of the extraordinary career of David Bowie. David Bowie is will feature more than 300 objects that include handwritten lyrics, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs and Bowie’s own instruments among which are Terry O’Neills photographs.

Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery is showcasing The Wrinkles of the City, Havana, Cuba, a recent collaboration between JR and José Parlá.

The Wrinkles of the City was started by JR in Cartagena, Spain and has been reprised in Shanghai, Los Angeles, and most recently, Havana. In 2012, JR and Parlá photographed and interviewed dozens of senior citizens who lived through the Cuban revolution, flyposting colossal black-and-white portraits of their subjects on the walls of city buildings. Parlá, who is of Cuban descent, interlaces the images with palimpsestic, calligraphic writings and color. In a city devoid of commercial imagery, JR and Parlá’s enormous yet intimate portraits offer a stunningly humane contrast to the endless repetition of political icons.

This exhibition will consist of twelve large portraits from the Havana iteration of The Wrinkles of the City project along with a site-specific installation.

Since 2004, the French artist JR has traveled the world creating monumental portraits of ordinary citizens. He is widely considered one of the most influential and visionary of all street artists. JR was awarded the prestigious TED prize in 2011. A documentary film about JR’s Inside Out, a global art project providing people the opportunity to share their portrait and a statement of what they stand for, will be showing at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival. His other projects include Women Are Heroes, Face 2 Face, and Portrait of a Generation.

José Parlá has received critical acclaim for his paintings, which lie at the boundary between abstract marking and calligraphy. Composed from layers of paint, gestural drawing and found ephemera, his work evokes the histories of urban environments. He was recently commissioned by the Barclays Center in Brooklyn (January 2013) and the Brooklyn Academy of Music (September 2012), as well as having recently held solo exhibitions at Haunch of Venison (London, UK) and Yuka Tsuruno Gallery (Tokyo, Japan). In 2013, Parlá was added to the collection of the British Museum, (London, UK). José Parlá lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. The Wrinkles of the City, Havana, Cuba, which was commissioned for the 11th Havana Biennial, has been made into a book published by Damiani/Standard Press, as well as a film, which will be on view at the gallery.

YUKA TSURUNO’S GALLERY is holding PROSE, its first solo exhibition by New York-based artist JOSE PARLA. The show will open a new venue for the gallery in an art center space TOLOT/heuristic SHINONOME established in Tokyo in March 2013.

Parlá’s uniquely expressive painting style combines and incorporates observations of urban graphology, elements of deconstruction, fragmented lettering, dynamic found phrases, and other writings, which have reached international acclaim. For Parlá, walls are sites where the energy, history, and culture of urban society are located, but he is not limited by in his abstract narrative weaving through travel. Human memory and its condition, and psychology are inscribed his paintings. His work takes its starting point from walking around cities where he travels to documenting them in order to start a dialogue or collaboration with the visited locations. Picture and memory allow him to create a new synthesis with the metropolis directly or in the studio.

His paintings are distinguished by their compositions, layered backgrounds, collage elements of found objects like posters, and rhythmically drawn calligraphic writings overlaid onto the textured layers. The backgrounds in his work consist of segments of city walls interpreted and rebuilt from his own impressions of them, and the writings resemble journals, or diary entries lodged within his memories, or the inspirations he obtains from the experience of walking through cities as he absorbs their energy holistically, and allow him to rack his focus on the detailed evidence. Although the abstracted texts constitute an indecipherable language entirely his own, when combined with the layers of painting, they evoke site-specific stories that unfold within our imagination.

José Parlá summarizes the work in the exhibition PROSE:

⎯ stream of consciousness ⎯ a rhythmic structure that carries the energy and poetic painting body in flux with dance ⎯ defined by memory brought into action in its own moment ⎯ embedded in an improvisational blend of performance ⎯ founded on research and observation that forms the visual compositions before us ⎯ evoking a metropolitan narrative ⎯ presenting an objective truth ⎯

In this exhibition, consisting of paintings on canvas and a 15-meter mural painting on canvas that Parlá made during his stay is shown in two gallery spaces.

Danny Boyle has surprised us with an enjoyable, psychological labyrinthine neo-noir thriller. Its as if all London’s Del Boys came together in a heist movie. The object of the robbery is a £25m Goya stolen in broad daylight from a London auction house. The realization of the painting subtly connects the high culture and the gangs all in one story. The gang’s inside man, Simon (James McAvoy), an auctioneer and art connoisseur addicted to gambling, is hit over the head by an accomplice (Vincent Cassel) resulting in amnesia and a failure to remember where he stashed the painting. The figuratively and literally enchanting Rosario Dawson, a Harley Street hypnotherapist, is brought in to sort things out. Little by little the threads start to unravel to reveal skilfully woven psychological materials embroidered with a roller-coaster of intensity of emotions overlaid a short period of time. The film has an impressive sound design (Danny had everyone take off their shoes on set to block any outside noise from Rosario’s voice) and is brilliantly photographed with tilted cameras, fractured images and reflections. It realises and reminds us, that yet again, nothing is what it seems.

Through all the years at Dior Homme, Hedi Slimane always knew how to create a sense of an occasion. The klieg lights rotated and Daft Punk’s electronics pulsed, at the Grand Palais debut for the newly rechristened Saint Laurent, Heidi presented a less grandiose attempt at furor. Spending his time in the City of Angels and buying into the rock ‘n’ roll vibe of the city. Le smoking presence felt through. The floor-sweeping, full-sleeve dresses had a deeply gothic tinge that is peculiar to L.A. A bizarre way to stake a legacy but the clothes struck a major chord with the girls in the audience—the Kills’ Alison Mosshart (who we spotted earlier at similarly gothic and structured collection concept at Tod Lynn’s Autumn show) claimed she was ready to take a fourth job to afford them.

Over the last decade, Malibu resident and author Lyndie Benson, has stayed incredibly dedicated to a project that is finally complete. Appropriately titled The Point, the book highlights the beauty of Malibu, the lifestyle and the people that reside there. Inspired by her boys childhood, Benson invites you into a world where she says your “life revolves around the tide and the conditions of the ocean. If you know it’s going to be a perfect sunset surf you may postpone dinner for an hour to get a wave or two before.” The people of Malibu have a rare combination of being both reasonably protective of their environment and welcoming to those who support the local economy during the summer months. 27 miles long, Malibu’s strong community thrives on small privately owned businesses and is constantly focused on preserving their land. Lyndie states, “It is a place where a high value is based on the appreciation of the environment that surrounds The Point. Kids learn from preschool to be highly aware of the gifts of their environment and how important it is to care for it.” In awe of the magical surroundings her children were able to experience at such an early age and of a life that most of the world finds to be a bit eccentric, The Point was established.

It was a spectacular sunset and perfect surf-I was contemplating a sunset surf when I see Laird riding a wave with literally 10 dolphins on either side of him riding the wave and jumping all around him-It was the most spectacular sight I have ever seen.” These are the moments that we sometimes forget to appreciate, and that is the whole point of The Point.

By the summer 2012, we had noticed Sergeenko’s rising presence on the international fashion scene. Her success continues and proves she’s no one hit wonder. The waists are nipped in to show a feminine silhouette contrasted by huge high wasted skirts draping the heavy fabric to the floor. In all its chic and femininity of reminiscent times. The colors are subtle in beige, crèmes, whites likened to a peasant at its best, yet balanced by blocks of vivid black suggesting power and sexuality hidden beneath the long, heavy skirts. The gem of the collection, is an emerald green evening dress that even Scarlett wouldn’t mind cutting up her curtains for.

Sergeenko’s girl is young, confident and possesses timeless elegance. Spending her days on a remote ranch surrounded by horses, maids and macho men, she dresses elegantly, but relaxed. You can spot leather accessories mixed with straw, and expensive silk is present but replaced with cotton batiste. Books are her only entertainment. Tales of Marshak Chukovsky, illustrated by Soviet artist Yuri Vasnetsov, who created a bright and unique fairy-tale world creates a distant memory of childhood. His drawings with Juliana’s touch became ironic embroidery in the form of pigs and foxes made in satin and straw – a subtle hint at a dark sense of humour and lack of bourgeois complexes. For Ulyana’s girl is free from conformity and having to prove herself.

Images of colonial beauties in white blouses and wide-brimmed hats are reflected in the eyes of overseas couture clients in the first row, causing genuine delight and approval. White Blush, aka LA artist Carol Rhyu, draws from old horror films, minimalist pop, and Julee Cruise in her self-titled debut EP, now available through her Bandcamp site.

Carol began recording over the course of many feverish late nights curled up next to a pair of warbling synths and an old USB mic, maybe as a way to escape the past, or rather to understand it better. “I was on this train and it was coming along until one day it totally derailed… We were probably going to get married, but I guess I was afraid of being a housewife, and it has sort of haunted me ever since,” Carol explains. In her old tiny apartment, she remembers anxiously recording in different rooms without doors and the paranoia of being heard between the walls or small cracks in the floor, “It always felt like someone was coming, but when no one came, this sort of devastating absence filled the room instead.” The record is very much about this absence as well as a particular nostalgia for that which is always slipping away into the past. Buried in the unconscious layers of these recordings, however, Carol was able to evoke both a sense of intimacy and despair through these gorgeous, minimalist arrangements.

White Blush will be playing a free show in LA at The Bootleg Bar on Monday, February 18th at 8:00pm. The album is now available on iTunes or on a name-your price basis here.

Jono Namara: what’s next?

Jono’s story is peppered with chance meetings with Heidi Slimane in Camden, which started his career as a model and censored interviews with Boris Johnson during his second, and more distinguished choice of careers. It seems that everything Jono touches turns to gold, be it a Christian Dior campaign, Paris fashion week, a model only boy band, an interview for FashionTV, a rock band he started in Japan, DJ sets in London’s Sketch and across the lamanche a Paris; the list goes on. How I developed an early crush is another story.

During my boarding school days in the English countryside, magazines were my only solitude. While flicking through Another Magazine and Dazed & Confused which were a cool and laid back, but well styled calibre of glossies back in the day where models stayed among the pages and weren’t encouraged to do much more. I saw Jono’s picture. Fast forward few months later, in London and in a leopard fur coat (which Noisettes’s Shingai Shoniwa complemented me on that evening) very skinny purple tailored trousers, kittens heels and at a Pop Up opening for a fashion label which at the time was a new concept for me, there he was among the crowd. In those days, you would work the room slowly for networking and what not. The fact that this boy sounded interesting, responded in a friendly matter and promptly confirmed that yes, in fact, it is him in the autumn issues was a novelty. I did later come to see Jono’s and his buddy’s night; Adult at Sketch. The music was electrifying and so, was the energy from the stage. The greatest musicians are those who leave their inhibitions and know how to possess attention and in turn, the crowd.

For Jono though, soon London was replaced with summer in Paris, more modelling and project undertakings, and then a year in Japan. He concludes that he was invited to extend his contract with the agency over there, which is longer than normal for models. With his charm and sincerity yet sharp wit it’s not hard to see why. From Japan comes truly boyish excitement of backstage full of models, older ladies happily walking 6 blocks to show shoot location in exchange for this boy’s company and more music stints. This boy doesn’t sit still. His motto? ‘’Those who can do.’’ And, he certainly does.

His latest project is his beloved journalism. Without dipping into the chocolate of politics, it seems to be that the opinion of the guy next door is just as relevant and important and the motivation behind Jono’s passion: PerspecTV. Jono explains that ”it took a mere matter of minutes for a dozen or so strokes from the tip of Vladimir Umanets’ single black marker pen to cause shock and outrage across the art world. For the canvas in which the tip of that marker pen met, and subsequently used to scrawl the phrase ‘a potential piece of Yellowism‘ on, was none other than a multi-million pound Rothko ‘Seagram’ mural hung at the great temple of contemporary art,’’

It is rather caricatured the way he picks his words for great emphasis, so I presume he is taking the pis*! Rather funny – but would have been better if he had then taken his copy of the signed/vandalised Rothko print into the Tate and asked them, with a serious face, to put on the wall as a valuable piece of art. Once they had said “fuck off” and thrown him out, then he could have gone in some friendly pub where the landlord (already primed) would have welcomed the print, gushed over how tremendous it looked and then pinned it up on the notice board (or something like that!) where the model-only rock band could have clustered, cooed over it and then whipped out their guitars and burst into song. However, his other newer topic about the Daily Mail’s notorious page 3 keeps it “in or consigns it to the history bin,” is a debate of a national standing with longer sited ambitions for Jono.

Shepard Fairey will debut a limited edition series of 4 abstracted prints with white and black diamond dust at the Opening Night Premiere Party for the LA Art Show, at Paul Stolper Gallery, Booth #724, on January 23. The series of prints represents the artist’s first foray into diamond dust printing.
The new medium, diamond dust, adhered to the surface of the screen prints is a seductive material, further highlighting one of the main concern’s with the artists’ work: propaganda. Perhaps most famously used by Andy Warhol, who understood perfectly how to convey a message, Diamond Dust was used to add glamour, transforming ordinary objects into coveted images. Diamond Dust, literally and metaphorically is superficial, applied to the surface of the print, the shimmering effect is both beautiful and alluring. For this reason, the material aligns with Shepard’s work and interest in the affects of advertising and consumerism.
Paul Stolper Gallery will also be exhibiting work from a previous co-publication with OBEYGIANT a print collaboration between Jamie Reid and Shepard Fairey. Four Large Format Screen prints and unique Fine prints makes up the collaboration.
The LA Art Show on January 23-27, 2013 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, South Hall, 1201 South Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015.

Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720) was an Italian artist famous for his etchings of Roma and atmospheric “prisons” (Carceri d’Invenzione). He studied as an architect, under his uncle Matteo Lucchesi, who was Magistrato delle Acque, an established Venetian engineer.

His original cammini designs and furniture pieces, established Piranesi place as a versatile and resourceful designer. In 1776, he created his famous Piranesi Vase, which resides at the British Museum in London.

However his most incredible work is The Prisons (Carceri d’invenzione or ‘Imaginary Prisons’), a series of 16 prints that show enormous vaults and mighty machines. These later influenced Romantism and Surrelism. His visions took on fantastic labyrinthian structures, epic in volumes. They are described as capricci- ‘’whimsical aggregates of monumental architecture and ruin’’. The best way to see and understand the thought process of this grandeur is to enter his mind through an animation. Factum Arte las, produced 3D animation, directed by Gregoine Dupond from the 1761 edition of the Carneci. It’s an invitation to delve into the dark side of Piranesi’s imagination. It is based on sections, perspectives and vanishing points taken from each of the 16 etchings on display. The film is accompanied by Bach’s Cello Suite No2 and envelopes and captures the viewers.

It has been said that, although whimsical, the ideas were not without great potential. ‘’Piranesi’s capricious prisons could never stand up in reality. The architecture itself reveals it is impossible outside the invention, that is, the mind where the artist found the structures, for paradoxically what is imprisoned there is infinite’’ Adriano M., Venice 1971.

One of his major works was Trafeo o Sia Magnifica Colonna Calide (1174-1179) it originally included 21 plates, later new plates were added. This remains one of his most ambitious achievements on a colossal scale which to vie with grandiosity of the originals.

My favourite piece from the collection is Gilted Grotto Chair. If not for its grandiosity, then for the ever present gilded finish. Piranesi’s taste, is somewhere between Venetian capriccio and Roman imperial splendour. He had a profound influence on future generations of artists, architects, designers, decorators and film makers. Towards the close of his essay, Diverse Maviene a’adorne I cammini he makes a full plea for a new style of design, unconstrained by theory, simpered by nature and sanctioned by the past.

Diverse Maniere gave full rein to what he called ‘’that mad freedom of working according to whim’’ what we consider the luxury available within operational business targets, finances and time restrictions of the projects. All are necessary for completion and birth of the idea and paradoxically the very thing which kills true genius.

Q: Why did you choose Oksana On for you capsule collection?

A: Oksana has an exceptional sense of style that many people look up to when it comes to fashion choices. She’s an amazing stylist; and above all we noticed that fashion designers in Russia don’t practice capsule collections by stylists or artists and so on. So we decided we should do something new, and it was a success.

Q: Where do you find your inspiration?

A: Our inspiration comes from fashion forecasts, personal taste and public demands. Mostly, it’s a desire to create something new and interesting that people simply like.

Q: Tell me about how quality differentiates you from other competing brands.

A: Well for starters, most of the materials we use are very high quality; from France and Switzerland. Quality control is extremely high as our production is in-house. This winter we made some of our pieces from recycled denim; I was surprised at how amazing this material looks. I hope in future we’ll integrate these kinds of sustainable materials more.

Remember the great American poet e. e. cummings? Remember this chap, girls? He’s the one who never used capital letters and once wrote “a politician is an arse upon which everyone has sat except a man.”
Well now, thanks to Visual Couture, the brainchild of Yana Uralskayja, fashion writer extraordinaire and a fixture of London Fashion Week, everyone can sit upon a politician and some. Perhaps, we are leaning more so towards the Hollywood archetype. Think Bridget Bardot/David Bowie/ Al Pacino Sophia Loren/Audrey Hepburn. For Yana has collaborated with legendary British photographer Terry O’Neill and award-winning luxury furniture brand Jimmie Martin to create ten unique Haute Couture furniture pieces. And, now you can dine, lounge and go to bed with all of them. Jimmie Martin exclusively handpicked vintage furniture (and Madonna no less, has chosen Jimmie Martin to help with her Super Bowl performance.) and selected pieces are incorporated with 22-carat gold leaf finish. Each piece is signed by Terry O’Neill and Jimmie Martin and considered a piece of modern art and a rare collectible.
Yana describes a vivid picture of her childhood house, adorned with photographs, paintings, and the rich artistic background, that was embedded in her everyday life. She paints a picture where discovering talents and individuality was encouraged. That respect for individual taste, is evident throughout her work.
One of the most skillful conversationalists, seemingly a forgotten art now, she marvels at her own experiences with legendary photographers, artists and artistic collaborations, one of which is with the legendary Terry O’Neill.
Yana creates an air of mystery, yet she is open and no-doubt likable, but as a well-travelled woman of many talents she knows what she wants and talks with absolute passion and commitment to her work. She gushes about Terry’s infectious love for photography and credits the collaboration on the impact he’s had on her. However, I’m not so sure, great ideas are rarely incubated without basis and are just awaiting a spark to ignite them, waiting for the right moment, which is what I suspect meeting with Terry was.
Yana’s taste has been uninfluenced by her devotion to artistic structure and her ability of choice has always been made possible by her childhood. That’s where she excels and commands influence among those in the know, in style and in essence. Her artistic approach to photography and historical reference propels true art, and stands for an historic approach intervened along the lines of the contemporary.

Westime Celebrates Opening of Flagship Store on Sunset Boulevard

Multi-Brand Boutique is Third and Largest Westime Location in California. Westime, Southern California’s leading family-owned watch and jewelry retailer, toasted the opening of its new flagship boutique on Sunset Boulevard last weekend with three nights of festivities. Throughout the event series, local guests mingled with more than 30 watchmakers and executives from top watch and jewelry companies, while shopping the collections that included unique pieces and limited editions available exclusively at Westime during the holiday period. Westime Sunset debuted at 8569 Sunset Boulevard, among the chic restaurants and boutiques of Sunset Plaza and the legendary nightclubs of the Sunset Strip. The 6,600-square-foot store, designed by Wick Architecture & Design and LAND, reflects the bold buildings and signage of the Sunset Strip. Perforated and back-lit metal panels wrap the asymmetrical façade, while a front wall of windows allows passersby to see the brightly-lit scene inside. Asymmetrical angles and high-contrast materials including glass, Venetian plaster, steel, walnut and polished concrete create a gallery-like setting inside Westime Sunset. Free-floating display cases on the ground floor allow customers to browse the watch and jewelry collections casually. The main floor also offers a corner customized to display Audemars Piguet’s collection, a corner customized for Breitling watches, and two VIP rooms. The mezzanine level is accessed by a wide glass and wood staircase as well as an elevator. One-third of the floor is dedicated to a custom build-out of Buben & Zorweg collectors’ pieces, hand-crafted and installed by the Austrian manufacturer in the same manner it would personalize a customer’s walk-in closet, safe room, or entire wall of collectibles for high-tech safe-keeping. Elsewhere on the mezzanine, collections from Switzerland’s independent watchmakers are on display, and a custom Richard Mille corner leads to an open-air terrace.

Parties marking the opening of Westime Sunset began on Thursday, December 13^th with a cocktail party co-hosted by luxury lifestyle magazine Los Angeles Confidential. The magazine’s readers, Westime clients, and customers of NetJets gathered in the store that was newly decorated for the holidays with a wintery white theme. While discovering the specialty watches and jewelry on display, guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres provided by The Little Door that included salmon brioche, carrot ginger flan, and lamb tzatziki sliders. Disaronno mixed specialty cocktails for the evening. A special selection of watches and bracelets featured in the fashion shoot of Los Angeles Confidential’s December edition took pride of place among the displays, and was also showcased in-store with a behind-the-scenes movie about the fashion shoot’s jewelry.

The celebration continued Friday, December 14^th with an intimate party for Westime’s VIP clientele. The evening began with a single malt scotch master class conducted by Martin Daraz, America’s Whisky Ambassador of the Year and brand ambassador for The Macallan and Highland Park Scotch whiskies. After an educational tasting of 20- to 40-year-old Scotch whiskies, guests made a final toast to Westime’s new location with a whisky from 1958. Guests spent the rest of the evening enjoying the Scotch whiskies of their choice, sampling hors d’oeuvres selected to complement the various styles of whiskies, and shopping the collections on display. Festivities culminated on Saturday, December 15^th with a cocktail party co-hosted by luxury lifestyle publication Haute Living. A line-up of luxury automobiles provided by O’Gara Coach, including a Rolls-Royce Ghost, Bentley GTC and Lamborghini Superleggera, greeted Haute Living’s readers and Westime’s guests upon arrival. Inside Westime Sunset, DJ Nicolas Le Masson set the mood with lounge music as visitors enjoyed sweet and savory treats from The Little Door plus wine, Peroni beer and cocktails. In addition to discovering Westime’s watch and jewelry collections, guests viewed an exhibition of paintings by local artist Marcello Pozzi. The silent auction of his painting “Time” raised money for the After-School All-Stars charity that evening. All guests throughout the weekend received a special edition Westime tote bag by Ghisò, the Italian manufacturer of fine leather accessories.

BOBI’s newest collection stays true to designer Kara Lusardi’s city roots and exemplifies a California chic style with its bold colors and casual construction. The line features light tees that can be dressed up with a structured blazer and maxi dresses perfect for a spring day. The garments are practical and leave you feeling both presentable and comfortable. When asked where she garnered inspiration for her latest line, Kara replied “ With the 50’s being an inspiration and a trend, I wanted to make my theme sound pacific, its based on tropical islands and the line is very beachy.” With a celebrity following that seems to just keep growing, the label has truly made its mark on the LA fashion world. Lusardi’s goal to reach international recognition is in motion and is proving to be a success thus far, establishing Bobi Europe in 2008 followed by a freestanding Bobi store in Rome.

Donned by style icons like Nicole Richie, Madonna and Kim Kardashian, Kara’s designs exude sophistication and that effortless look every woman wants to portray. A graduate of FIT, Kara began her career working in the production department at Cynthia Rowley and soon discovered her true talent was in design. Shortly after leaving Rowley, Lusardi began designing for XOXO, Rampage and most notably, Nicole Miller. Kara has an innate sense of fashion and is both tenacious and very business oriented, a trait she inherited from her parents. After moving to Los Angeles, it was time to embark on a line of her own, drawing inspiration from the bohemian lifestyle that embodies the city of angels, in 2006, under parent company Genexus, Kara started BOBI.

With her latest collection acquiring lots of attention and Bobi’s recent features in publications such as ELLE and Women’s Health, Lusardi is ready to take on the world.

The guests enjoyed ambient atmosphere through Yana's sophisticated music mixes (being a radio DJ and all!), champagne reception, chocolates and delicate cupcakes with sugared blueberries atop! Jayce Wong, the Retail Jeweler Designer of the year presented her collection, as well as brought in her own precious stones to woo the guests and invite them to try out new designs based on their own ideas. The fantasy came into play when several ladies ooh-ed and ahh-ed at vast sizes of stones, and so they should! The collection featured elegant in lays without compromising on style and size. The sex appeal of jewellery cooed the boys as well, as they got all their family Christmas gifts at once. What better way to show how much a woman means than to highlight her beauty with timeless beauty?

Project Lena, has already interviewed Richard Zarzi a year earlier (http://projectlena.com/richard-zarzi-artwork-paris-madonna-angelina-jolie-kate-moss-art/) . However, he is back from Cannes to continue to conquer London's scene of modern art. His latest coming to the capital has been warmed with reception at several exhibition spaces, among which was Maddox. The event was organised by boys about town Luca Guerri and Sean Montaine through Luca's new PR company “Les Garçons de Minuit”.

Being Italian he brought a very Italian crowd, well styled good looking girls and guys. The music was great throughout, very deep house which went well with the event.
The guests enjoyed champagne reception on arrival. Choice of different types of food. I had the Prawn Cocktail and Veal Milanese. Other options included Salmon or Bruschetta as starters and Scallops/Sea Bass/Papardelle with Boar Ragu. Guests had a choice of White or Red Wine to accompany the dishes and Richard's take on celebrity art and modern culture.

Q: Why did you choose Oksana On for you capsule collection?

A: Oksana has an exceptional sense of style that many people look up to when it comes to fashion choices. She’s an amazing stylist; and above all we noticed that fashion designers in Russia don't practice capsule collections by stylists or artists and so on. So we decided we should do something new, and it was a success.

Q: Where do you find your inspiration?

A: Our inspiration comes from fashion forecasts, personal taste and public demands. Mostly, it’s a desire to create something new and interesting that people simply like.

It is impossible to determine whether my tribute to him is sincere or whimsical, for he does not exist, but only exploits the contemporary limits of my imagination which allows me to hold on to the thought. I consume my fear of perfection – what will we strive for when it occurs?- of the illusion of him because his ART was created in the absolute. Its structure. Its boldness and colours, mushrooming of outer lines and shimmering of would-have-been. Glittering in the sunrays of our imagination.

His eminence within his presence of what holds together and concludes my past. The past which I have managed to let go of. For haut bourgeois Pariolini, for Vogue, for people who are starved for social revolution,S.,and pour des creations du peinture dous laquelle nous vivrons.
