AOC Wine Bar

AOC is the brainchild of celeb Chef Suzanne Goin (Lucques, Tavern and Hungry Cat). She interned at Alice Water’s legendary Chez Panisse and received the James Beard award for Best Chef of California in 2006. Culinary credentials aside, we think AOC has not only stood the test of time, but deserves a place in your “go to” file.

I know small plates are all the rage these days but AOC was ahead of the pack in 2003 when they opened. Maybe it’s been around a while but it still deserves mention. The food is consistent, inventive and never fails to satisfy. I suppose it could be described as some sort of Pan Mediterranean Tapas bar. Beautiful cheese and Charcuterie abound, there’s a wood burning oven, a fab wine list and it all comes together in an elegant room filled with a stylish crowd.

Reservations are still hard to come buy, as AOC’s popularity hasn’t waned, so call a few days in advance and give it a try! I’ll issue one warning, should you choose the arroz negro (black rice) with squid and saffron aioli you will probably be leaving the restaurant with black lips and teeth due to the squid ink! I say so what! It’s a small price to pay for a slice of heaven! Cheers.
